We believe local journalism should be just as good as national journalism. That means in-depth investigations and beautiful writing about the places where people live their day-to-day lives.
We're now publishing that kind of journalism in six UK cities. It's all possible because we've developed a new model: funded by reader subscriptions.
We're often asked if we're going to set up a newspaper in Leeds. We're keen, but we need to know there are people here who want to read great local journalism – and are willing to back it. That's why we'll launch if we can get 500 people to pledge to support us.
If you think your city needs journalism like that, then hit that button and get us to the target.
West Yorkshire has a glorious journalism history. Help us to open a new chapter.
Read"I'm super excited Mill Media is launching a quality independent site for Leeds. My home city has a proud heritage of independent journalism and alternative news, and I'm really looking forward to seeing what they get their teeth stuck into"Robyn Vinter, The Guardian
"In the industrial revolution, every big city in the north had a local champion newspaper... We need people with time to investigate things thoroughly"Tom Forth, co-founder at The Data City
"In journalism you're often having to pump things out quite quickly — it would be great to have something fresh where you're able to invest time into stories"Aliza Kayan-Ahmed, journalism student at Leeds University
We go beyond the surface level to work out what's really going on.
Our model pushes us to produce journalism that's worth paying for
We don't chase clicks, but publish a few really good things each week
